Dilation Eye Exams

This eye test is most necessary for those people who are at the highest risk of developing eye disease. Your optometrist will inform you if you are potentially one of those people and will recommend a pupil dilation eye exam.

To make your pupils dilate the eye doctor will add a few drops into your eyes, once these take effect the optometrist will be able to examine the internal structure of each eye. A variety of equipment will be used during the exam.

As your pupils become dilated you will be more sensitive to light than usual. The drops usually take effect within 20-30 minutes, so you will have a little wait before the tests can begin.

Be aware that the drops take a number of hours to wear off therefore it is important to remember to bring sunglasses with you to help compensate for the sentitivity to light following your test.
